There are nine public holidays a year (as of 2007) These are; 1. 1 Jan (New Year's Day) 2. 17 March (St Patrick's Day) 3. Easter Monday 4. The first Monday in May (May Day) 5. The first Monday in June 6. The first Monday in August 7. The last Monday in October 8. 25 December (Christmas Day) 9. 26 December (St Stephen's Day) The employer may choose one of the following; An additional day's pay An additional day of annual leave A paid day off (on the public holiday) A day off within a month of the public holiday Public holidays falling on a Sunday are transfered to the following Monday |
